The Dawn Hotel Melds Rock and Americana on Debut EP ‘Highway’s Edge’
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Indie rock/Americana band The Dawn Hotel announces “Highway’s Edge,” a six-song EP that travels through hidden gardens, parched farmlands of California and lightning storms in Illinois. The full EP goes live on April 17 with a CD release party on May 2.
The Dawn Hotel is headed by songwriter and guitarist Amanda Kooser, who has been described as Lucinda Williams meets Chrissie Hynde. Zachary Karim is on bass, Steve Del Favero on drums and David “Guts” Gutierrez plays lead guitar.
“The songs on ‘Highway’s Edge’ are a travelogue, across states and through history. There are moments that resonate broadly, like with ‘Dust’ and ‘Ghosts of Lakes,’ both of which connect to climate issues,” says Kooser. “Then there are more personal songs, like the explorations of loss and family in ‘Sky Garden’ and ‘Days of Rain.’”
The rollicking “Hot Honey” name-drops Bruce Springsteen and revels in hot rods and the freedom of hitting the road. “That song came about during a dinner when Steve the drummer suggested that 'hot honey' sounded like a trashy love song,” says Kooser. “So we made it happen.”
“Highway’s Edge” was recorded and produced by Troy Krusz in an adobe casita at Circle Change Studio in Albuquerque.

“Fireflies,” the lead single from "Highway’s Edge," is available on streaming on April 3. “Hot Honey” goes live on April 10, and the full EP will be available on April 17. The Dawn Hotel will celebrate the EP with a CD release party at High & Dry Brewing on Saturday, May 2 at 529 Adams St. NE in Albuquerque. Dream-pop/folk-rock duo Billy & Bella will open the show at 7 p.m.
